Bleed for Fashion

Since I couldn't sleep, I decided to marathon through every post on Lily's blog, Bleed for Fashion while eating toast. This blog is amazing. It's sparse, personal but not heart-on-the-sleeve torrential, has beautiful fashion-centric photos but isn't weighted down by dozens of similar looking photos of the blogger-cum-model, and it's especially effective because I see Lily as a swankier, better-dressed version of myself. (I'm a writer and have come to terms with the fact that I will never be wealthy in life, which is ok. I prefer insatiable desire to insatiable greed). We like the same brands, have the same styles, same hair, same dysfunctional personalities, same loves and same peeves, same attitude, and same views on life.....

And yes, I got all of that from an hour and a half's worth of blog-reading. All her outfits are A+ so instead of picking the highlights, I picked the looks that I'm craving for now.

Wilfred blouse

Gucci booties

Wilfred shredded tee

I'm LOVING this lavender colour and the amount of sheerness to the fabric!

American Apparel raglan top

Siwy sequin leggings

Stella McCartney mesh heels

Nasty Gal leopard maxi skirt

American Apparel tights

Gucci ankle boot

H&M motorcycle jacket

Silence & Noise corsetry bra

Armor Jewelry body chain

Tom Ford sunglasses

Talula Babaton blazer

Le Fou by Wilfred blouse and pants

(I swear, I didn't just pick this outfit because I now work for Aritzia. I really love Wilfred's blouses and how Lily transforms the simplest light blouse into a badass outfit).

Alice + Olivia beaded crochet shrug

Alexander Wang tank

Citizens of Humanity jeans

Christian Louboutin ankle boots

Gucci sandals

Club Monaco blazer, shirt, sweater, and red tie

Christan Louboutin pumps
Christan Louboutin studded pumps

Fabulous.

I kid about this girl being my doppelganger. I know nothing about her. I kid because I envy her shoe collection and her seemingly infinite supply of soft, slouchy t-shirts.

It's 7am now and it's about time for some more toast.

Golden Globes 2011

My favorite dresses of the evening. You'll notice that a few are very different from the others while another few have couple things in common.

Olivia Wilde in Marchesa

By far the prettiest dress of the night. No one can deny the majestic beauty that was this Marchesa gown. The ombre jewel detailing is just gorgeous. And as a lot of other bloggers have pointed out, her hair's a little flat.

January Jones in Versace

Yes, this dress is sexy in an obvious way but if my body was as smokin' as Jones', I'd have picked this dress too. Versace always does the drop-dead gorgeous, skin-baring dresses but I think the fringe makes it even more titillating. I love a fancy gown in an interesting fabric.

Leighton Meester in Burberry Prorsum

Leighton is gorgeous, so anything she wears, she rocks (even this hideous Louis Vuitton frock she wore to the Met gala in 2009). I love the long, chiffon sleeve dress but that slit! She looks like a prim, demure high-society lady with a secret to tell. I also love the gold Louis Vuitton minaudiere with the tassle.

Sandra Bullock in Jenny Packham

I'm not a fan of her poufy bangs but the dress is stunning. It's got a lot of old Hollywood glamour to it. I didn't even Jenni Packham did evening wear of this calibre.

Megan Fox in Armani Prive

Unlike lots of women out there, I think Megan Fox is fabulous and beautiful and she always knows how to look both classy and sexy on the red carpet. I think this rose-hued gown with detailed, jeweled bust and sleek silk skirt with sexy side slit go really well with her wavy brown hair parted to one side.

As you may be able to tell, I'm loving blush/cream colours this season.

Trend: Back Cleavage

I wasn't endowed with the greatest chest so I've always been attracted to the types of cleavage created by other parts of the body. When I was younger, it was butt cleavage, when I stared to love shoes, it was toe cleavage, and recently, I've been obsessed with back cleavage. Technically, it's not really cleavage but it certainly is bare and way more exposed than the front could ever be.

I find a woman's back extremely sexy - the curvature of the spine far more complex and nuanced than the rotundity (or lack thereof) of the barbarian breasts. I love the subversion of an open back. You see someone wearing what might look like a simple sheath dress or simple gown and then once they turn around, they surprise you with a slab of skin.

Vintage, from a la Ladywolf

This trend is popping up everywhere, from vintage dresses to contemporary and designer clothing. It's no wonder since it's pretty flattering on most body types. I'll definitely be watching out for exposed backs at tonight's Golden Globe. Celebrities love to do the show and turn for red carpet cameras.
