Aritzia Haul

Not feeling well so I'm just going to post some stuff I bought recently for my trip to Mexico next month. I'm excited but all I can utter is a lacklustre "yay."

Wilfred

Jersey bustier tank in Victoria Blue (the blue is much deeper - closer to cobalt)

Washed silk shorts in Black

T. Babaton

Silk georgette kimono in Black/Cinder

Trend: Water Colours

I love when fashion resembles art: architectural fabrics, gesso-like textures, whirlwind colours and optical illusions. So of course, I'm loving the water colour trend right now. These items look as if they've had the gentle touch of a paint brush glide over them as if the fabric were a canvas.

Silk spandex draped dress w/ woven belt
(Neiman Marcus describes the dress as silk/spandex and Bloomingdale's describes it as georgette and its content as polyester)

I'm absolutely in love with this Ali Ro dress. I just love colour and draping.

Pre-Fall 2011

Fall 2011
And the trend continues on into Fall! I just love Erdem's prints. Erdem is truly the most artsy-fartsy of all designer brands out there. Some of the prints look like they belong on a canvas at The Met.

The Matthew Williamson number is from awhile back but it just looks so gorgeous on Thandie Newton that I thought I'd include it with this post. Also check out Giles' water colour-inspired looks from Resort 2010. I suppose the lesson is that you just can never go wrong with painterly brights.

Aritzia Haul

Update of the things I've purchased at Aritzia over the past month:

Wilfred jersey Ace tank

  T. Babaton washed silk Ronnie polka-dot dress

Wilfred drapey lyocell Casbah pant

The Wilfred Casbah pant in action

Citizen of Humanity Avedon Slick Skinny jeggings

I love Wilfred's harem pants. I remember when the trend came out awhile ago except it was so over-the-top and so ugly (you know - the diaper pants?) that I thought that anyone that bought them was a trend-whore. But I like how the style has become more subtle now. They look like regular pants but with a bit more room to breathe. It's why they're so comfortable! I also bought another pair that are less drapey and have a button-front but I can't find a photo of them anywhere. Those ones are great because they're versatile: could be both casual and business-appropriate.

The Citizens jeggings are the most comfortable jeans I've ever worn. They look like jeans but they're stretchy like leggings. I couldn't find my exact shade on the internet. Mine are almost-black with a hint of dark navy blue with ashy grey undertones. That doesn't even make sense but I don't know how else to describe them? They look like the ones in the photo except there's more blue and less fading.

Aritzia

I got some more things from Aritzia after work today. I've begun to realize that having a job and working in retail cancel each other out. I'll work 8 hours for minimum wage and then blow $200 on clothes. I guess that's what employment is for...making minimum payments on a credit card.

With that being said...I love my new items!

Wilfred lace dress w/ silk slip
Wilfred silk Loti kimono

The Wilfred kimono as a blouse

The lace dress is from the Fall collection and the kimono is a new Spring item. I can't wait to wear the detachable slip as well! I have a few pieces that require a slip. (They sell polyester slips everywhere but I only wanted silk).

Thank god I don't have a perfect figure. I think I brought about 20 things with me into the change room but because I have an awkward figure, most of the things didn't suit me and I only ended up getting 2 (and wanting about 6). If I was tall, thin, and had a nice rack, pretty much everything would look good on me but since I'm none of those things, I have to be more selective.

I tend not to buy:

1. Anything that makes me look fat.
2. Anything that makes me look short.
3. Anything that doesn't fit PERFECTLY. I have way too many items in my closet that just sort-of-fit.
4. Anything that makes me look yellow.
5. Anything that accentuates body parts OTHER THAN my boobs.
6. Anything trendy.
7. Anything that I don't absolutely LOVE.

You'd think that some of these rules were common sense but no, some people don't get it. Case in point, #5. WHO WOULD WEAR THIS?

This dress has made a 6 foot, size double 0 model look fat and frumpy!! And this dress is by Prada. PRADA! For fuck's sakes.

Aritzia Spring 2011

I started my work at Aritzia on Monday and I wanted to celebrate my first day with a few pieces from the new Spring collections but alas, the fashion show hasn't streamed yet so I'm linking to another blog that got its hands on some key pieces for the new season.

Check out a few sneak-peeks from Style + Substance. Brittany's spring picks include a lot of slouchy, over-sized tops (who can ever have enough black t-shirts?), army and cargo detailing, and the colour blush. I'm loving them as well.

I feel that everything by Wilfred is always a must-have piece, whereupon everything in their collection somehow feels essential to my wardrobe. God knows I can't own everything. The colour palette doesn't look too different from Le Fou by Wilfred's Fall/Winter collection but I'm not going to jump the gun here. I'm eagerly awaiting Aritzia's fashion show on Facebook, streaming live on Sunday, January 13th @ 5pm EST/8pm PST. Remember to like Aritzia on Facebook and you'll be able to see the collections front-row from the comforts of your own living room!

Hopefully I can start taking my own photos at Aritzia once I get settled in.

Bleed for Fashion

Since I couldn't sleep, I decided to marathon through every post on Lily's blog, Bleed for Fashion while eating toast. This blog is amazing. It's sparse, personal but not heart-on-the-sleeve torrential, has beautiful fashion-centric photos but isn't weighted down by dozens of similar looking photos of the blogger-cum-model, and it's especially effective because I see Lily as a swankier, better-dressed version of myself. (I'm a writer and have come to terms with the fact that I will never be wealthy in life, which is ok. I prefer insatiable desire to insatiable greed). We like the same brands, have the same styles, same hair, same dysfunctional personalities, same loves and same peeves, same attitude, and same views on life.....

And yes, I got all of that from an hour and a half's worth of blog-reading. All her outfits are A+ so instead of picking the highlights, I picked the looks that I'm craving for now.

Wilfred blouse

Gucci booties

Wilfred shredded tee

I'm LOVING this lavender colour and the amount of sheerness to the fabric!

American Apparel raglan top

Siwy sequin leggings

Stella McCartney mesh heels

Nasty Gal leopard maxi skirt

American Apparel tights

Gucci ankle boot

H&M motorcycle jacket

Silence & Noise corsetry bra

Armor Jewelry body chain

Tom Ford sunglasses

Talula Babaton blazer

Le Fou by Wilfred blouse and pants

(I swear, I didn't just pick this outfit because I now work for Aritzia. I really love Wilfred's blouses and how Lily transforms the simplest light blouse into a badass outfit).

Alice + Olivia beaded crochet shrug

Alexander Wang tank

Citizens of Humanity jeans

Christian Louboutin ankle boots

Gucci sandals

Club Monaco blazer, shirt, sweater, and red tie

Christan Louboutin pumps
Christan Louboutin studded pumps

Fabulous.

I kid about this girl being my doppelganger. I know nothing about her. I kid because I envy her shoe collection and her seemingly infinite supply of soft, slouchy t-shirts.

It's 7am now and it's about time for some more toast.
